Over time we have come to understand how projects need to be able to scale from the outset, and best how to achieve that.. To that end we have developed a Java library containing in excess of a thousand re-usable (and tested) classes that enable us to rapidly develop a range of reliable systems ranging from java-servlet based e-commerce applications to self installing windows applications (.exes) that will grow as your business grows. The library is licence-free, in that the source is entirely written and owned by Go-Ape, and totals over a hundred thousand lines of code. Search Engine Optimisation Ranking (i.e. where a link to your website will appear in say a google listing for a given search term) is a fundamental to businesses that operate on the internet. If your competitors website is listed on the first page, and yours is on the fourteenth, it is likely that the business will go to them, as people are often averse to scrolling though long lists. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of changing a website's content and design to ensure that it will appear higher up the list for a given set of search terms. One thing to bear in mind is that what worked six months ago may not work now as the algorithms used by search engines do change from time to time. The correct registration process and fundamental principles remain the same however, and these should always be applied to all sites from inception onwards. Webstats How do you determine whether your search engine optimisation is effective? The answer is web statistics (webstats). This is information that includes: what search terms were used to find the site which pages were viewed how many hits you have had (per hour/day/month) how many unique hits (new customers) peak hours/days where the viewer was referred from (e.g. google) search terms used what country the viewer is from (based on their domain extension) These statistics are available to clients securely online, in a clear graphical format. Trademark Registration and Patenting. Go Ape.com works in association with an approved patent agent to be able to solve any registered trademark and patent issues. Registering trademarks often goes hand in hand with registering domain names, so if you have a product or service that you wish to be protected it's best to register the two at the same time. Single class registered trademarks last for ten years and International patents (covering most of the western world) last one year, giving you a chance to promote your product in safety. Why Java? The beauty of Java is that it is inherently re-usable, and re-use leads to reliability as modules are tested continually under different conditions. We have developed several servlet-based systems from the library (secureFetch, e-StChristopher and Excel-To-Web) plus a range of Windows executables from small development tools to complete GUI applications (for example messageCentre for secureFetch, and mail-shot.com), which showcase the capabilities of the library. Not wanting to get too technical but.. All our systems are hosted on our dedicated server in a Level 3 data centre, where we run Tomcat 5.5 and Apache 2.2 on a Linux server, using Postgres and MySQL databases (although our library will talk to pretty much any database), and deploy using Java version 1.4.2_05. Go Ape and Microsoft Our Microsoft Windows executables are built in house using the Excelsior Jet Professional cross-compiler, in which we have been involved since its early days. If your company is considering marketing applications written in Java then it would be worth talking to us about protecting your code's intellectual property (i.e. by preventing it from being de-compiled) and how to deliver it (i.e. as self-installing licence-protected executables). We don't deploy live systems using Microsoft applications, operating systems or databases for security and reliability reasons. Access to our live server is limited to the two directors and support staff - all deployment is performed by us in order to keep the server trouble free. Worldpay We have considerable in-house experience in integrating on-line systems into the Worldpay billing system (part of the Royal Bank Of Scotland), to the extent that we have written our own Java classes to provide a more seamless integration to the Worldpay Select Pro JDK. We also use the Worldpay Select Junior for our smaller businesses. Non Geographic Numbers Using a non-geographic number (for example 0800, 0845, 0870, 0871) has significant advantages to business. 0800/0808 Freephone : can increase your response rates by up to 150% with call charges as low as 5p per minute. 0845 Local Rate : your callers pay local rate, you pay no call charges 0870 National Rate : revenue every time your number is called. 0871 Special Rate : generate income from your inbound calls and subsidise the cost to divert calls to mobile phones. 070 Personal Choose your memorable personal mobile number with thousands of numbers available. If you are planning to move office, it makes sense to set up a non-geographic number first, and then get your customers used to the idea before you move. You can change where your calls are re-directed when ever you like : even to mobile phones (although there are obviously additional call charges for this facility). You also have the advantage of voice to email and fax to email. Voice to email If you are not at your desk or do not wish to be disturbed, the system will take a message and forward it to a pre-determined email address as a .wav attachment. This is a great way to keep timestamped messages on file for future reference, and to forward/copy messages to members of your team, particularly if they are in different time zones. Voice to fax A fax to email service can save you having to have two phone lines - faxes are collected by the system and emailed to your specified account as attachments, so that they can be stored and forwarded as needed (there is a yearly charge for this service). Google Site Maps Go Ape offers Google's new Site Map technology to help your website rank higher. Site Maps are still in development (currently in Beta test), but the technology has been applied to all our client's sites in readiness for full roll-out later in the year.
